“Our NYC townhouse was rain damaged. It required substantial interior and exterior repair to 5 stories. The work was handled expeditiously at a high level. Top management was always available. Punch list and follow up work was responded to promptly. West Village was proactive in getting the adjacent house to contribute significantly to the cost of repair because of their failure to maintain the building. They then went on to repair the adjacent building. Additionally West Village GC built out the 3500 sq. ft. furniture showroom located in the D&D, a major professional design building in Manhattan. There was a waterfall in the middle of our living room. The winter storms had finally got the better of the roof and the water came rushing in. We had heard from our architect that West Village was great, so that was our first call. Boy was it a good one. Here are five reasons why we think they are the best in the business:
1. Customer service. They simply know how to deal with people better than most contractors. They are masters at setting expectations clearly, and then delivering. They held our hands through the whole process — dealing with the insurance company, the coop, the mold experts — they made it all easy. When unexpected things come up, it was a simple conversation. No drama — just results.
2. Expertise. Their people are craftsmen, not just workers. As an example, we have an articulated ceiling that involves a lot of tricky sharp angles made from drywall. Their work was better than the original — the precision of the lines, and the sharpness of the edges was perfect. Their tile expert redid our tiles perfectly — that’s another area where attention to detail shows.
3. Organization. A huge amount of a renovation or construction project hinges on coordinating everything — the permits, the materials, the building. They were on top of this, which made the whole project run smoothly.
4. Care. West Village treats your home with care. One of the biggest sources of angst when we did a previous renovation was that we thought of our apartment as our home, and the contractors treated it like a construction site. West Village went out of their way to treat our home with care. They over-protected areas that were not being worked on. They cleaned up the entire job site every evening. When we would visit off hours, everything was cleaned and swept, and the tools put away carefully. They didn’t have to do that, but it was part of their process — and it was a signal that they cared about our space.
