“My wife and I worked with West Village GC and our architects, Res:4, during the extensive renovation of our duplex loft in NYC’s Union Square. Not only was the principal (James) hands on, dedicated and extremely professional throughout, but he always looked for innovative ways to solve problems or capitalize on opportunities during the renovation. And since we had designed a white on white loft space, the detail in terms of finish and craftsmanship needed to be second to none, and they delivered exactly that (evidenced by Dwell magazine featuring the apartment during an NYC home tour). Simply put, I cannot recommend them enough, and strongly suggest that anyone undertaking a renovation in NYC should do themselves a favor and consider engaging with WVGC.”

“We’ve had a great experience with West Village GC. They have been consistently respectful, flexible and understanding of our business requirements during the construction process. The onsite teams/subcontractors are excellent and the quality of the workmanship is of a very high standard. WVGC worked with us as a team throughout the construction process, doing their best to minimize disruption. I would certainly recommend WV and work with them again.”

“We most recently worked with West Village GC on a very demanding renovation of a client’s apartment. What started as a “freshening up” quickly morphed into a full fledged project that included a new kitchen, new closets, specialty plaster work throughout the entire 3,500 square foot apartment, and all new custom millwork in the client’s Study. All of this work was completed in an impossibly tight time frame of 10 weeks, we had from early June to the end of August to accomplish this – no small feat. We could not have been happier with not just the end result which was top-notch, but the entire process was handled with care, professionalism, and a good sense of humor. I really appreciated West Village’s can-do attitude and keen attention to detail. Our clients could not have been happier with the final result. I look forward to working with West Village again.”

“I had the great fortune of working with West Village GC on an expansion of a large Visual Effects Studio. Our business specializes in high end VFX and is client facing and as such, expects an extremely high attention to detail, genuine quality of service and fiscal transparency from those we hire. James and Tal at West Village more than exceeded these expectations. I have been the project lead on 3 major infrastructure build outs prior to this one and none have gone as smoothly as this. I can without reservation attribute this to the quality and integrity of WVGC’s work. The team at WVGC has a deep understanding of their trade, hire dependable sub-contractors, demonstrate a commitment to timeliness and, most surprisingly, do it with a real sense of joy. I also must mention that their job sites the tidiest and most organized I have ever seen. I would not hesitate to recommend them for any job that requires high end work and thoughtful, inspired collaboration.”

“I really enjoy being the designer on the remodeling team of West Village GC. I have worked with many contractors around the New York Metro area and have found this crew to be neat, timely, personable, and above all respectful of the client and the job site. Recent collaborations include the entire renovation of an Eastside NYC highrise apartment and a Westside multi-floor home built in 1903. Communication and team work are key to the way they run the projects, or as James likes to call it, their “contracting culture and core values”. This tight communication keeps the schedule on target, prevents unpleasant job site surprises and gives the client peace of mind. I highly recommend James Mansfield and West Village GC to anyone in Manhattan looking to have a superior renovation and a notably simple and pleasant contracting experience. The black and white Art Deco NYC bath in my profile is one of our many collaborations.”

“West Village GC is a wonderful high end general contractor. They are professional, knowledgeable and very lovely and responsive people. They give estimates of cost and time that are real, and they complete projects on time, and perfectly.

They are not inexpensive, but their work is definitely worth the cost. The principals have a highly developed sense of aesthetics and often make great suggestions about how to do something differently or better.”

“Our NYC townhouse was rain damaged. It required substantial interior and exterior repair to 5 stories. The work was handled expeditiously at a high level. Top management was always available. Punch list and follow up work was responded to promptly. West Village was proactive in getting the adjacent house to contribute significantly to the cost of repair because of their failure to maintain the building. They then went on to repair the adjacent building. Additionally West Village GC built out the 3500 sq. ft. furniture showroom located in the D&D, a major professional design building in Manhattan. Their work was impeccable and timely.”

There was a waterfall in the middle of our living room. The winter storms had finally got the better of the roof and the water came rushing in. We had heard from our architect that West Village was great, so that was our first call. Boy was it a good one. Here are five reasons why we think they are the best in the business:

1. Customer service. They simply know how to deal with people better than most contractors. They are masters at setting expectations clearly, and then delivering. They held our hands through the whole process — dealing with the insurance company, the coop, the mold experts — they made it all easy. When unexpected things come up, it was a simple conversation. No drama — just results.
2. Expertise. Their people are craftsmen, not just workers. As an example, we have an articulated ceiling that involves a lot of tricky sharp angles made from drywall. Their work was better than the original — the precision of the lines, and the sharpness of the edges was perfect. Their tile expert redid our tiles perfectly — that’s another area where attention to detail shows.
3. Organization. A huge amount of a renovation or construction project hinges on coordinating everything — the permits, the materials, the building. They were on top of this, which made the whole project run smoothly.
4. Care.  West Village treats your home with care. One of the biggest sources of angst when we did a previous renovation was that we thought of our apartment as our home, and the contractors treated it like a construction site. West Village went out of their way to treat our home with care. They over-protected areas that were not being worked on. They cleaned up the entire job site every evening. When we would visit off hours, everything was cleaned and swept, and the tools put away carefully. They didn’t have to do that, but it was part of their process — and it was a signal that they cared about our space.
Just writing this, I smile at both the experience that we had with West Village, and the results that they produced. We couldn’t be happier.
