The West Village Way
Growing up, Steve Jobs once helped his father build a fence around their family home. While working, his father shared a piece of advice with Jobs: “You’ve got to make the back of the fence, that nobody will see, just as good looking as the front of the fence.
The idea stayed with Jobs. At Apple, he insisted that every element of the Macintosh computer be beautiful, down to the circuit boards inside. No one would ever see them, but team members knew that the circuit board was laid out as elegantly as possible.
This principle resonated with us at West Village GC. Walk into any of our finished projects. You’ll notice the elegant floor finishes, fine cabinetry, and exquisite light fixtures.
But to get that right, the construction “behind the wall” has to be immaculate. Our plumbing work looks like metal artistry — 16 copper pimples aligned perfectly, working in sync to ensure an exceptional finish. It’s a key reason why we live by the “Care” and “Do It Once” core values. We’re so confident in the quality of our work that we provide a 10-year warranty.
Our Unique Capabilities
From managing the subcontracted steel and concrete work to handling permits and the myriad by-laws and codes governing NYC historic buildings and co-ops, we will serve as your single point of accountability.
Our projects complete 100% on time and within budget, which is unheard of in Manhattan. You will get the 5 Star experience with the peace of mind that all the fine details are handled and backed by a 10-year warranty.
Since 2001, we’ve completed over 400 highly-detailed Manhattan construction projects, including exquisite homes in classic uptown and trendy downtown areas. We’re the preferred contractor for Hudson Yards, and our work has been featured in the New York Times, Dwell, Rob Report, and Elle Decor, and many other leading publications.
Here are some recent examples of our work:
Case Study: Early 20th Century Building Renovations
Early 20th Century buildings bring unique challenges and complexities from structural engineering (roofing, exterior surfaces, waterproofing, and mechanical systems) to tenant and neighbor complications.
Case Study: Chelsea Apartment — Massive Renovation, Tight Timeline
We had 10 weeks to do a major renovation, including millwork (cabinetry, kitchen, chairs, etc.) on a stunning duplex apartment.
To make it all fit together, we did two months of planning. We brought in three different cabinet makers, two Venetian Blind companies, and three tile companies to mitigate risk. This meant if any construction project area was failing, it could be isolated and remediated with fresh resources. The contractors also competed against each other to provide their best quality proposals.
The alternative would be to source a subcontractor at the last minute, jeopardizing the whole project.
The result was a real win-win for the client — they got an excellent finished product on time and on budget. The project was also featured in Lux Magazine.
