Growing up, Steve Jobs once helped his father build a fence around their family home. While working, his father shared a piece of advice with Jobs: “You’ve got to make the back of the fence, that nobody will see, just as good looking as the front of the fence.

The idea stayed with Jobs. At Apple, he insisted that every element of the Macintosh computer be beautiful, down to the circuit boards inside. No one would ever see them, but team members knew that the circuit board was laid out as elegantly as possible.

Case Study: Early 20th Century Building Renovations

Case Study: Chelsea Apartment Massive Renovation, Tight Timeline 

We had 10 weeks to do a major renovation, including millwork (cabinetry, kitchen, chairs, etc.) on a stunning duplex apartment.

To make it all fit together, we did two months of planning. We brought in three different cabinet makers, two Venetian Blind companies, and three tile companies to mitigate risk. This meant if any construction project area was failing, it could be isolated and remediated with fresh resources. The contractors also competed against each other to provide their best quality proposals. 

The alternative would be to source a subcontractor at the last minute, jeopardizing the whole project. 

The result was a real win-win for the client — they got an excellent finished product on time and on budget. The project was also featured in Lux Magazine.
