A Gilded Age Mansion Reimagined for Modern Living
West Village GC was engaged to execute a comprehensive modernization of this historic East 79th Street residence, integrating contemporary infrastructure and technology while preserving the architectural integrity of the original limestone townhouse. The scope encompassed full building systems upgrades—including lighting, automation, audio/visual, security, and mechanical—seamlessly woven throughout the home to meet current performance standards without disrupting historic detailing. West Village GC coordinated the installation of a fully integrated Control4 and Lutron HomeWorks QS system, motorized window treatments, distributed audio, and discreet security infrastructure, alongside significant mechanical and code upgrades including new boilers, chimney relining, and fireplace conversions. Across all levels, we executed refined architectural interventions and custom millwork, reconfigured kitchens and specialty spaces, constructed new programmatic areas such as a gym, laundry, playroom, and ensuite bath, and applied meticulous finish work ranging from decorative paint and wallpaper to parquet flooring and stone restoration. The project required careful sequencing, cross-disciplinary coordination, and precision execution, resulting in a residence that performs at a 2026 standard while honoring the craftsmanship, proportion, and material richness of its Gilded Age origins.
